Support Activities for Oil and Gas Operations

This includes establishments primarily engaged in performing support activities, on a contract or fee basis, for oil and gas operations (except geophysical surveying and mapping, site preparation, construction, and transportation activities). Services included are exploration; excavating slush pits and cellars, well surveying; running, cutting, and pulling casings, tubes, and rods; cementing wells, shooting wells; perforating well casings; acidizing and chemically treating wells; and cleaning out, bailing, and swabbing wells.

Support Activities for Coal Mining

This includes establishments primarily engaged in providing support activities for coal mining (except geophysical surveying and mapping, site preparation, construction, and transportation activities) on a contract or fee basis. Exploration for coal is included in this industry. Exploration services include traditional prospecting methods, such as taking core samples and making geological observations at prospective sites.

Support Activities for Metal Mining

This includes establishments primarily engaged in providing support activities (except geophysical surveying and mapping, site preparation, construction, and transportation activities), on a contract or fee basis, for the mining and quarrying of metallic minerals and for the extraction of metal ores. Exploration for these minerals is included in this industry.
