Description
An Evoked Potential is a clinical test that elicits a response from a neural structure via an electrical stimulus which can be analyzed to verify it’s functional integrity. Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IOM) is the congruent application of sensory and motor evoked potentials, electromyography, electroencephalography, electrical stimulation and the auditory brainstem response (SEP, MEP, EMG, EEG, STIM and ABR). The functional analysis of these modalities in the operating room in real-time protects the structures of the brain, brainstem, spinal cord or peripheral nerves that are at risk of devastating compromise during various surgeries.
